One of the ways MSU-Northern students communicate with each other, faculty, campus offices and the world is by electronic mail.

As a registered student, you are provided a free e-mail account shortly after registering that can store up to 50 MB. This is your official e-mail account for ALL University related matters. You can access your e-mail account at: https://myportal.montana.edu/

In most instances, your username for MyMSU Portal access (where your email is) is determined by taking your first name (according to what the campus registrar’s office has on file) and your entire last name with no spaces, dashes, apostrophes, or quotation marks. For example:

The Username for Robert Benjamin Ba’zooka, Jr. would be: Robert.Bazooka

For NEW students, your password the very first time you log-in is your birth date, in this format:

MMDDYY

The starting password for someone born on January 3, 1989 is: 010389

The starting password for someone born on December 14,1988 is: 121488

You will be required to change your password the first time you logon.

If you are having difficulties logging in, visit the ITS Help Desk in Cowan Hall 117B... and remember to bring your Student ID!
